In the Conan & Shaq talk, these influencers and entrepreneurs share their stories and how marketers can use the same practices to keep people coming back for more. Both Conan and Shaq see themselves as selling their personality. They try their best to be true to themselves and their brand. Although they have a marketing team, they are not being told who to be. In recent events they have been working with cultural collision projects such as filming Haiti and giving the country a voice in American television after Trump’s statement. I love this piece because Conan went to another culture and connected with them on a human level at perfect timing for what was happening back home. Consumers have a preference for brands and influencers who are the most authentic. Even if they are promoting an ad, it has to have a human connection.

In my next event, I saw How to be Human. It revealed tips on how to approach clients in a pitch. We have to realize that clients are human too. They want to feel inspired the same way everyone else does. This goes back to the theme of authenticity. Ads need to have a human touch, not just the data insights. This presentation showed some inspiring ads that I will use in my commercials assignment.

Next, I went to the David Schwimmer session with Skittles’ exclusive campaign. They were the first ever to create the world’s most exclusive advertisement for the Super Bowl. This stunt itself was so clever that it made the audience want more content. Skittles is always trying to distrust the culture. And The campaign seemed very fitting to the Skittles brand as it is a very 90’s styled ad. The casting of Marcos Menendez was carefully picked to represent the authenticity of the Skittles campaign. His style and love for Skittles was critical. They noted that they wanted each singular piece of work to be able to stand on its own. And if the consumer wanted to seek out more content, they are able to put the pieces together and create a whole storyline.

Finally I went to the Tyler Perry talk where he discussed his hustle throughout the years and how he used his platform to bring up diversity in the workplace. His entrepreneurial spirit inspired me to keep building my career and use my future position to bring the bar up for other minorities.
